Women in IT

New economy companies are offering huge career opportunities and opening up IT to a much broader range of skills and professionals. IT recruiters are predicting the changing nature of the industry could also redress the current gender imbalance. While women are still under-represented in traditional technical-based IT roles such as software engineering and hardware, the emergence of Internet companies and e- commerce is attracting graphic artists and people from the creative side where females are more prevalent. Women are also attracted to the smaller, less corporate structure, casual workplace and flexibility of new economy companies and the opportunity to make an impact.
Many of today's IT executives have come from a technical background, and advanced to senior management. Whereas women are entering IT from different streams, like sales and marketing, designers, artists and writers, or general manager roles.
