Start Looking for a Job
Now that you are thinking seriously about a change, opportunities will become more evident. Don't follow a career plan just because it seems to make sense to you; follow one that is normally followed by males. It may seem that a job as secretary to the president could provide good training for the job of president, but it will not lead to that position. Find out what others have done and are doing. Don't make assumptions based on your own exposure to the work force.
So, where's the work?
You have a lot more options than you think. Basically, they fall into five categories.
Stay with the company where you currently work and find an opportunity that exists.
Stay with your current employer and create an opportunity for yourself.
Change companies and fill an opening elsewhere.
Create a position in another company and convince them to hire you to fill it.
Start your own company.
Now is the time to explore these possibilities simultaneously. In this book, we will concentrate on the first four options. We will not go into detail on starting your own business, many other publications can help you with that process.
