T.I.P.S. - To Improve Pay and Success
Money and the Web
Women have always handled the purse strings when it comes to day-to-day family purchases. Women make the overwhelming majority of purchasing decisions in a family, and usually handle the checkbook. Certainly, even large appliances, such as refrigerators and washers are often purchased single-handedly by women with confidence.
However, when it comes to buying automobiles, women are intimidated with both buying and financing. According to research quoted by Christine Stricker of PeopleFirst 75% of women feel that they are not taken as seriously as a man when buying a car.
I believe there is good reason for "feeling" this way. I’ve been completely ignored on auto lots, when couples and men around me were smothered with sales people. Not being taken seriously, along with knowing we have to negotiate, can be make the whole process an ordeal.
The internet allows new alternatives for the finance and purchase of automobiles. We can research our alternatives, both new and used. We can easily learn what various cars are selling for, since the world is our marketplace. Sites such as PeopleFirst allow us to apply, and be approved for a loan before we show up on the lot. According to Stricker, cash in hand allows women to gain confidence, and the ability to negotiate as a cash buyer.
There is usually more than one way to accomplish our goals. We can be empowered by people we never meet. Awareness is the first step. Small adjustments make a big difference.
