Stand Up and Speak Up

Too many of us are hesitant to voice our opinion If we are even slightly unsure that we are not 100% correct, we decide it is best to keep our mouths shut. We stand by in silence, believing we will appear stupid or inept if we say something that isn't right on target. When we do take a stand and someone contradicts us, we doubt our abilities even more. If this sounds like you, take a hard look at who is voicing their opinions and how correct these opinions are. Many crucial business decisions are made with incomplete or incorrect information, just because someone was willing to blurt out what he thought. We do our employers a serious disservice if we allow bad decisions to stand, without at least attempting to make them right. If we stand by in silence and let others get the wrong idea, we are as much at fault as our pushy counterparts.

You may be waiting for someone to ask your opinion, or to stop talking long enough to allow you to get a word in edgewise. Lots of luck. Men are taught to trust their own judgement and use it to make things happen. Instead of waiting for things to be done differently, adopt your style to the way things are. Speak up often and with confidence, even more confidence than you feel. Try not to diminish the viewpoint of others, but donêt allow your own experience to go unused. You have a lot to offer your employer and your corporation. You owe it to yourself and to those around you to be heard.
